The Watch
An expensive watch, such as those by the designer Rolex, can go beyond being a mere fashion accessory. A watch also signifies status and power. As money and power are more often than not positively correlated, the greater the value of the watch, the more power is communicated. And it is done with subtlety. More than that though, it takes someone with knowledge of a watch's value (the designer, the model, et cetera) to appreciate and understand the power display. In this way, watches can also become a separator by the upper class from those in the middle and lower class who may not be able to grasp the value and power symbolism behind the accessory.
